Bohnen - Growth retardation
Symptoms
Especially young plants are sensitive to K deficiency. Plant growth is very severely stunted with shortened internodes and leaf chloroses. Older leaves show yellowing first, starting from the leaf edge and spreading towards the center. With ongoing deficiency chlorosis is followed by marginal scorch.
Reasons
Potassium deficiency (right)
Low soil fertility, high Ca and Mg contents, low pH or sandy texture may be the reason for K deficiency.

Potassium deficiency vs. healthy plant made worse by
- Acidic soils (low pH)
- Sandy or light soils (leaching)
- Drought conditions
- High rainfall (leaching)
- or heavy irrigation
- Heavy clay (illite) soils
- Soils with low K reserves
- Magnesium rich soils
Potassium is important for
- Healthy green foliage
- Improved crop development
- Increased yields
